Abstract
The failure of pancreatic β cells is an important cause of type 2 diabetes, therefore promoting β cells proliferation becoming a potential approach to treat type 2 diabetes. Many investigations have shown that the transient receptor potential vanilla-like subtype 4 (TRPV4) channel is closely related to the proliferation of many types of cells, suggesting that it could be a potential target for the treatment of diseases related to cell population decline or hyperproliferation. TRPV4 channels exits on pancreatic β cells, speculating that TRPV4 channel regulation may promote the proliferation of pancreatic β cells so as to achieve the purpose of treating type 2 diabetes. Our previous studies have proved that the compound that promote the proliferation of pancreatic β cells can inhibit the TRPV4 channel. This research mainly studied the effect of TRPV4 channel modulators on the proliferation of pancreatic β-cells. The results show that specific TRPV4 channel antagonists can promote the proliferation of pancreatic β cells with a certain concentration-dependent relationship.
